1790
Vincent Oje lead a failed rebellion to gain rights to free the people of colour in July 1790.
1791
The enslaved made the first move against the Planters and against slavery on August 21st, 1971. They were lead by Toussaint l'Overture and by 1792 they controlled 1/3 of the island of Saint Domingue.
(late) 1790s
Haitian leader Toussaint l'Ouverture begun to take control over many areas and had the support of the French army, but won battles using an army he had made from former slaves.
1802
Jean Jacques Dessalines and Henry Christophe discovered that Napoleon fully intended to return slavery to Haiti and decided to lead an attack against the french army. They won the battle and drove the french from their island, having defeated their leader.
1802-1803
The War of Independence took place from 1802-1803, the slaves fought the French who controlled their colony, and it ultimately ended with the slaves winning and they finally got their worked for freedom.
Triggering event
There really wasn't an event that triggered it all specifically, but the slaves got so fed up with the social inequality in their community that they took a time to strike against slavery. The first strike that triggered the revolution was made on August 21st 1971, when the army of slaves made their first attack against the French that controlled the colony.
