Above is a letter written by Henri Gregoire on vthe 8th of june, 1791. I feel that this is one of the most important primary source from the Haitian revolution for a variety of reasons. First and foremost is that it shows the turning point where slaves had decided they had had enough of the inequality. However it also talks about the status of free people of color and about the instability between social classes. Not only that but it mentions laws passed to free people of colour and how the slave owners of Haiti ignored that law. |
