Was the revolution successful? |
The Haitian revolution stirred up many mixed results, some international and some not. Slavery on the island had been removed and Haiti became independent, but at heavy costs. The island went through a civil war, which divided the island into the north and south. Not only were they divided, but the once booming economy suffered great damage and never truly recovered. In america however, slaves were inspired by the Haitian revolution which may have lead to the German coast uprising 8 years after Haiti's independence. In the end, the Haitian revolution was successful, for the slaves had reached their goal. Slavery was gone and they were paid for work, operating under an independent government of their own.
